About Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a healthcare profession concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal aches and pains.

Chiropractors are trained to use their hands to treat pain which arises from muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments.  Traditionally only hands were used, but these days chiropractors typically use a range of techniques to help people get out of pain.  There is crossover between all the manual therapy professions - chiropractors, osteopaths and physiotherapists – no treatment is specific to any profession.  So when you wonder whether you should see a chiropractor or an osteopath, the answer is really to go to someone who explains your condition in a way you understand, and makes you feel better.  Personal recommendation is usually the best way to find someone who can help you.  Don’t worry too much about the name on the door!

Here at Forest Edge Chiropractic, we combine our extensive experience with the latest scientific evidence to provide you with the best care for your condition.

Techniques that we use include manipulation and/or mobilisation of joints; massage, stretching and active release of soft tissues like muscles, tendons, fascia and ligaments; acupuncture (sometimes called medical acupuncture or dry needling) to help with pain and muscle spasm; and exercise prescription to rehabilitate problems and prevent recurrence in the future.

Manipulation has been shown to be helpful for back pain and neck pain.  The World Health Organisation recently updated its guidelines for the treatment of chronic lower back pain.  We’re delighted to know that the treatments we most commonly use to treat lower back pain – namely massage, dry needling, manipulation and exercise prescription – are exactly what the WHO has found to be the most effective treatment for lower back pain.

FAQs

  • Many people are confused about whether they should see a Chiropractor, an Osteopath or a Physiotherapist. While the professions were historically distinct, these days individual therapists are often very similar. All will be able to assess your problem and help you understand what is causing it. Individual treatments may vary slightly between practitioners, and we recommend finding someone who explains your problem in a way you understand, and makes you feel better. Personal recommendation from friends and family is often a good place to start.

  • Sadly you are not able to receive chiropractic treatment via the NHS. We work hard to keep our prices as low as we can, and our treatments as effective as possible so as to minimise the cost to you.

  • At Forest Edge Chiropractic, we charge £60 for the initial consultation. This takes about an hour, and we ask lots of questions, do a physical examination, explain what’s causing your symptoms and what your treatment options are, and then (providing you choose to go ahead) deliver your first treatment.

Our follow up treatment appointments are 30 minutes, and cost £43.

  • Yes, absolutely! We’re really pretty good at finding out exactly where the disc is causing problems, delivering manual therapy to help with your symptoms, and suitable exercises to help you strengthen your back to get you back to your normal daily life and work.

  • Yes! We totally understand that lots of people are scared of the cracking! (We also understand that some of you absolutely LOVE it!). If you’re worried about it, we have lots of different treatment options that are great at getting rid of your symptoms and getting you back to your normal routine. Don’t be afraid to tell us if you’re scared - absolutely nothing will happen that you don’t want to!

  • Well, probably both! Here at Forest Edge Chiropractic we use massage and manipulation (if you want it), along with lots of other treatment options, such as acupuncture/dry needling, stretching, mobilisation, exercises and rehabilitation to help you recover. So here you can get massage and chiropractic in one place!
